Visual and Performing Arts

The Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program is an exciting department where we develop student artistic skills through knowledge, practice, and performance as they experience contemporary trends in art, music theory and practice. We create opportunities and platforms for students to ‘shout’ their talent through exhibitions, competitions, various concerts and events in the school and community. VAPA curriculum follows American standards adapted from NAFME (National Association for Music Education) and Common Core.

Students in grades Kindergarten through grade 5 meet in music at least once a week and in art once a week. Students in grades 4 & 5 have the opportunity to participate in an extra-curricular chamber orchestra and/or choir led by our elementary music teachers. Grade 6 students meet 2 to three times per week to learn elements of music. Students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to choose their elective and display their talents through concerts and Art shows.

Student in Grades 7- 8 can choose one of the Arts electives:

  • Choir
  • Chamber Orchestra
  • 2D Art & Design
  • Painting & Drawing

Students in Grades 9-12 must earn one credit from the following VAPA courses:

  • Art & Creativity
  • Three-Dimensional Art
  • Textile & Fiber Arts
  • Media Arts
  • AP Art & Design
  • Chamber Orchestra Group
  • Vocal Band
