Dr. Jack Chou, Chancellor and Executive Director of the SMIC School Board
Dr. Chou graduated from Tsing Hua University with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and then received his Ph.D. degree in Material Science from Michigan State University. Dr. Chou was a Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at Drexel University, and Research Scientist at Industrial Technology Research Institute (Hsin-Chu) before he devoted himself to elementary and secondary education globally. He served as Headmaster at Jakarta Taipei International School, Bangkok Thai-Chinese International School, and Taipei City Kui-Shan Experimental School before he joined Beijing SMIC Private School in 2008. Dr. Chou has extensive K-12 international education experience, and also has expertise in science education, parenting, character building, and life coaching, on which he published over 20 papers. He is often invited by schools, business institutes and professional organizations to lecture on character education, HR development, and group creativity. He is also an avid columnist on such topics.

Dr. Kelley Ridings, International K-12 Principal
The guiding ideal Dr. Kelley Ridings follows “is to assure that every decision we make amplifies that we are doing what is best for students, providing them with the greatest possible access to learning skills so that they will be able to engage in personal educational growth throughout their entire lives. I am confident that all students can find great accomplishment in any subject when that subject is made accessible to them in a way that excites their imaginations and creativity.” As the International K-12 Principal, Dr. Ridings sees his role as to foster the growth of a dynamic school community of students, families, and staff who will transform SMIC into the premiere international style school in Shanghai.Dr. Ridings' 26 years in education includes administrative experience as a high school and elementary principal, a former Academic Affairs Director at SMIC Private School – Shanghai, a district-level administrator, and a superintendent. His teaching experience includes high school social studies, English and university-level history. Coming from New Mexico in the United States, he has also worked in schools in Mexico and South Korea. Dr. Ridings holds a Ph. D. in educational administration, a master’s degree in history, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education.
Dr. Becky Shih, Principal of Language Learning Center
Dr. Becky Shih is an education veteran with over 20 years experience. She has been an SMIC administrator since the school was established in 2001. The school has strong and well-known language programs under her leadership. With SMIC students from 25 different countries/regions, the mission of LLC is to promote and develop the understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in the school community and to educate the students to be active global citizens.
