As noted in the SMIC school motto, "Honor, Excellence, Community, Joy", “Community” is one of the key factors of our school. Community is defined in many ways from one classroom or club, to each campus, to our neighborhood, to Shanghai, and even throughout the world. In order to raise global citizens, we start by honoring and being an active participant in our local community.
Our PTA program voluntarily invests time and resources to help our school in many ways. Throughout the year, several parent seminars are held (in Chinese or English) on common and popular topics, which help our parents connect with each other. Our students and teachers are also honored as the PTA volunteers raise funds and purchase gifts to show its appreciation.
The SMIC School community encourages whole community involvement in many charity programs like the Art Charity Program, Giving Tree, Read to Feed, Million Tree Project, and 30 Hour Famine to give back to the community, both locally and globally. Teaching our students to be Global Citizens is partly achieved by modeling ways to sacrificially give of ourselves to benefit others.
