SMIC History

The SMIC Private School is a K-12 school established in September of 2001 by the Semiconductor Manufacturing International Company (SMIC). The school campus covers an area of 120 mu (~80,000 m2), of which nearly 50 mu is green spaces and gardens. Initially the purpose of the school was to provide a quality education for the children of foreign and domestic employees of SMIC, so the registered student body was limited to the children of company employees. In 2004 the school opened its doors to non-SMIC children, making its high-quality educational resources available to the society at large and receiving a warm welcome and positive appraisal from the wider community. Currently, approximately 22% of enrolled students are children of SMIC employees. The school graduated its first senior class in June of 2006, and now includes over 400 graduating alumni.
